Robert Scoble: Text links for podcasts

Scoble's got some interesting notes here.

One thing I think he didn't stress enough is that the text notes and times are in their podcast text feed; so it's all right there, but it's not in the feed that has the enclosures - it looks as though they place a link to the podcast in the CDATA field that contains the notes, so it becomes a link in the post description. I'd like to see them put that text in the podcast enclosures feed so that you wouldn't have to sub to both.

I don't think it's likely for Dave to work on putting that stuff on audio.weblogs.com - I've heard he's pretty adamant about wanting people to listen to the whole podcast. But who knows, maybe that only applies to his own stuff and he might be into this. I'm not sure how all that meta-data would get there - I assume that the Engadget guys punch all that in manually, and there's no hope at all that every podcaster would do this, no matter how many podcatchers were screaming for it (and as far as I can tell, Scoble's the only one asking) - there's just not enough time in the day.

That said, it would be nice to have a common set of tags to put that kind of meta-data in the RSS feed so that podcast-friendly aggregators could look for it. Maybe someone should namespace a set of extension tags to the RSS spec to handle this stuff. I know that some folks are talking about meta-data, but I don't know where those conversations are taking place and don't know specifics. Hmmmm....

Update: Steve Holden's also talking about this stuff here
