Robert Scoble: Text links for podcasts

Scoble's got some interesting notes here.
One thing I think he didn't stress enough is that the text notes and times are in their podcast text feed; so it's all right there, but it's not in the feed that has the enclosures - it looks as though they place a link to the podcast in the CDATA field that contains the notes, so it becomes a link in the post description. I'd like to see them put that text in the podcast enclosures feed so that you wouldn't have to sub to both.
I don't think it's likely for Dave to work on putting that stuff on audio.weblogs.com - I've heard he's pretty adamant about wanting people to listen to the whole podcast. But who knows, maybe that only applies to his own stuff and he might be into this. I'm not sure how all that meta-data would get there - I assume that the Engadget guys punch all that in manually, and there's no hope at all that every podcaster would do this, no matter how many podcatchers were screaming for it (and as far as I can tell, Scoble's the only one asking) - there's just not enough time in the day.
That said, it would be nice to have a common set of tags to put that kind of meta-data in the RSS feed so that podcast-friendly aggregators could look for it. Maybe someone should namespace a set of extension tags to the RSS spec to handle this stuff. I know that some folks are talking about meta-data, but I don't know where those conversations are taking place and don't know specifics. Hmmmm....
Update: Steve Holden's also talking about this stuff here

Dave Winer: Podsafe Music?

Dave Winer's proposed a name for non-RIAA music: Podsafe music. Much better than Podmusic, but not one I can get behind all the way, you? Plenty of music might be podsafe for different podcasts - Coverville (reviewed here) is a great example - it's safe for him to play any ASCAP music because he licenses it. So "Podsafe" isn't exactly correct, and it's not nearly as sexy as "podcasting" so it doesn't get a pass on that front.
Still; better than anything else I've heard so far.

Back to the old name thing again

podstar::Marc Canter - Rio Casting
Interesting to see yet another person commenting on the Podcasting name (I blogged some about this here and here).
I guess I was either too lazy or not incensed enough; I gave up on the whole struggle. I think I was right to do so; it would be a tremendous wate of my time and energy to do otherwise. In addition, I'm getting a little bit of recognition for my site here, but if I was still refering to it as "RSSAudio" (my sexiest replacement for "podcasting", which isn't saying much) or "RioCasting" (not much better), I don't think I'd have the readerhip that I do (whatever readership that is).
Like it or not, the community has adopted the phrase podcasting with plenty of complicity from Adam Curry and Dave Slusher, among others. I think it's a marketing coup for Apple, and I can't pretend that doesn't annoy me (although I'm not an Apple-hater), but I also can't pretend that I wouldn't love it if somehow I receive an iPod in a mysterious package.
Good luck with your quest, Marc!
